Music and Choir
Music at All Souls
For many who attend services at All Souls the quality of the music is very special. Our pianist, Eva Greene, plays a variety of music from classical to jazz for our preludes and offertories. On occasion there will be instrumentalists from the congregation or wider community playing with her. The choir, led by Tom Baehr, continues a tradition of excellence in performing a variety of anthems, including a wide range of songs from many traditions, including some Tom himself has composed.
We typically use two UU hymnals for most of our congregational singing, accompanied by pianist Eva Greene. They are Singing the Living Tradition and Singing the Journey: A Supplement to Singing the Living Tradition. Copies are available for use during services on a rolling book shelf near the entrance to sanctuary. Now and then the worship leader will choose a song not in the hymnals, and word sheets will be distributed in the Order of Service.
The Choir
The All Souls Choir is open to all church members and associates. While there is no formal audition process, we are looking for people who love to sing, can carry a tune, can learn their individual parts, can follow instructions and can commit to the rehearsal schedule. The ability to read music is a plus, but not essential if the singer is a quick study.
Rehearsals are from 4:00 to 5:00 PM on Tuesdays and 8:45 to 9:50 AM on Sundays. The choir sings for all services from September to June, plus other services such as weddings and memorial services.
Please talk to the choir Director after any service if you are interested.
