The unique Theater Adventure Program that uses All Souls Church as its physical home, is planning some important changes.
New England Youth Theatre and Theatre Adventure Program have announced that effective November 15 Theatre Adventure Program will be operating as an independent self-governing entity, Theatre Adventure, Inc.
Laura Lawson Tucker and Darlene Jenson created Theatre Adventure fifteen years ago as an NEYT program for youth with developmental disabilities. NEYT founder Stephen Stearns has advocated for Theatre Adventure beginning with the first one-week summer program in 2004. Throughout the past fifteen years the NEYT Board of Directors and staff members have helped provide the stability for Theatre Adventure to meet the artistic and creative needs of more than one hundred students. Theatre Adventure actors create theater that is empowering and astounding. More than fifty Theater Adventure productions have graced the stage over the past fifteen years.
“Theatre Adventure has been able to expand to the point where its continued growth warrants its own board to chart its own direction,” Tucker said. She and Jenson will continue to guide and direct Theatre Adventure, Inc. after the change.
Hallie Flower, Executive Director of NEYT said, “This is an exciting time for Theatre Adventure. Its programming and mission is as vibrant as ever, and with Laura and Darlene continuing as directors, all of us are convinced that they will have a bright and successful future.”
The next Theatre Adventure will be the annual fashion show gala event, “Putting on our Finery,” Friday Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. at the church. It will be a spectacular evening that includes courageous theater, an out-of-this-world pie auction, and delectable desserts during intermission.
