ALL SOULS CHURCH AT THE WEST VILLAGE MEETINGHOUSE

WEEKLY E-NEWS

THURSDAY, MARCH 14, 2024 – WEDNESDAY, MARCH 20, 2024

SUNDAY WORSHIP SERVICE: EMERALD LESSONS from the ANCIENT ISLES
Far beyond the secular silliness some attach to St. Patrick’s Day traditions, there is a powerful, lasting legacy we might all garner from the myths and from the divisions of faith in Irish history. What significance from this Celtic holiday and its tenacious traditions can we attach to our wider faith journeys that perhaps carry lifelong meaning?   Worship Associates Trish Murtha and Jody McAssey take us through these emerald isle ideas.

FROM THE ADMINISTRATION
The All Souls website administrators have noticed an unusual uptick in the number of random attacks on our website. In addition, the church has received some unusual bogus e-mails. We would like to remind everyone of a few things:

  1. Never open an e-mail attachment in a message from someone you do not know.
  2. If someone you know sends you a message with an unexpected attachment, check with them first before opening it.
  3. It is easy to create an account that appears to be the minister’s e-mail or the church office. Please know that neither the church nor the minister will ever ask you directly for money or to buy gift cards or make wire transfers to them. If you receive an e-mail that purports to be from the church and is asking you for money, please check with the church first.

Sunday’s anthem:  An Irish Blessing
“May the road rise to meet you. May the wind be always at your back.” Thus starts this traditional Irish blessing, in a musical setting by the Black Catholic composer, James E. Moore, Jr., in one of several settings of this poem. Moore was professor of music and liturgy at the seminary Anathaeum of Ohio between 1977 and 1982, and music director of the Chor der Alten Burse in Vienna, Austria, from 1984 to 1987.
